It was at its closest point to earth (123 million miles) on March 23, 1977. It was closest to the sun and therefore the brightest on April 1, 1997. It last visited earth 4,210 years ago or 2,214 BC. That date is just prior to God calling Abraham to begin the Hebrew nation.
